Graham Mertz was the quarterback for the Wisconsin Badgers a season ago. Mertz was named the starting quarterback for the Florida Gators this past Friday for the upcoming 2023 season. He is a redshirt junior and will look to play well for the Gators after not playing so well for the Badgers a season ago under former Wisconsin Badgers head coach Paul Chryst.
Graham Mertz last season with Wisconsin only completed 57.3% of his passes for 2,136 yards passing, 19 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions last season. His QBR was only 52.9 a season ago, which was horrendous. This is going to be the Florida Gators’ problem this season under head coach Billy Napier, who is in his second season with the Florida football program.
Mertz beat out former Ohio State transfer Jack Miller II and also redshirt freshman Max Brown for the job. Graham Mertz has some big shoes to fill this season for Florida because of Anthony Richardson being selected fourth overall in the 2023 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts. When Mertz came to the Wisconsin Badgers football program in 2019, he was the highest quarterback commit in the history of the program, but it became a major disappointment from 2020 and onward.
Graham Mertz’s Time With Wisconsin and His Future with Florida

He left Madison, Wisconsin with 5,405 career passing yards, 38 touchdowns, and 26 interceptions. Graham Mertz had a very bumpy career with the Badgers. He will have two years of eligibility remaining with the Florida Gators. Florida is projected to be a middle-of-the-pact team in the SEC Conference this season.
The Wisconsin Badgers are upgrading at the quarterback this season from Graham Mertz to SMU transfer Tanner Mordecai for head coach Luke Fickell.
