New York Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito has been starting over the last few weeks because of an injury to Tyrod Taylor and it is unknown who will start against the Green Bay Packers on Monday night. DeVito has taken the Giants fanbase by storm over the last few weeks.
Even though he hasn’t done anything spectacular, he is a New Jersey kid who is being rallied behind by this New York Giants fanbase. On Monday, Bommer Esiason of WFAN thinks that the Giants need to stick with DeVito over Tyrod Taylor against the Green Bay Packers.
Esiason said on the radio:
“This would be one of the dumbest things Brian Daboll could ever do, is not play Tommy DeVito. [Taylor’s] contract is up at the end of the year, and we need to find out whether or not Tommy DeVito can be the backup to Daniel Jones. Tommy DeVito is the story. He’s the reason to watch the Giants right now. It’s a feel-good story. He’s a local kid who is doing one…if Tommy DeVito goes out there and poops the bed, then you can bring in Tyrod Taylor to win a game.”
Taylor got hurt back in Week 8 against the New York Jets with a ribs injury. He has been on injured reserve ever since and on Monday, Tyrod Taylor returned to practice for the New York Giants and they have 21 days to take him off of injured reserve.
Green Bay Packers Can’t Afford To Have a Let Down Against Tommy DeVito
With the Packers in the playoff race, a loss against a third-string quarterback could be damaging to their playoff hopes after winning their last three games. This would be the perfect game for the Green Bay fanbase to jump all over defensive coordinator Joe Barry if things don’t go well.
As for the New York Giants, it would be a mistake to go to Tyrod Taylor. A lot of the fanbase wants them to stick with DeVito. Tyrod Taylor has been in the NFL for years and we already know what he can do. DeVito still has room to grow and maybe he can be the New York Giants backup quarterback long-term to either Daniel Jones or another quarterback next year.
New York has won two straight and is looking to make it three straight games. They are 4-8 on the year and the Packers are 6-6 on the year. Green Bay’s defense will need a pass rush against a bad New York offensive line.
