It couldn’t be anymore obvious that the Green Bay Packers need help on their run defense. Packers GM Brian Gutekunst took notice, and decided to have current free agent linebacker Alvin Jones tryout for the team. Jones, who is the fraternal twin brother of Packers star running back Aaron Jones, also went to UTEP to play college football. He signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2018, but has never played an NFL game. In August 2018, he was placed on injured reserve, and was released a week later. In addition, in August 2019 he was placed on injured reserve, and then signed an injury settlement on September 10th.

It’d be a family reunion for the Jones brothers
“I know he’ll do whatever he needs to do and hopefully he’s on the team with me. I’d love to have that. That’d be a true joy” star running back Aaron Jones said, showing excitement to have his brother on the team. “It just puts a smile on my face and brightens my day knowing I could have an opportunity to play with my brother again.”
Alvin Jones comes from a promising college career at UTEP, being one of the best defensive players in his school’s history. He finished with 343 tackles in four seasons, second most in the program since 2000. He recorded 40 tackles for loss, which ranked third in school history. In addition, his recorded 15 sacks are fourth in school history.

Alvin Jones worked out with the team earlier this week, and could possibly sign at the end of this week or beginning of next week, depending on the COVID-19 protocols. He would be adding depth in linebacker to a defense that just placed their starting linebacker Christian Kirksey on injured reserve. This week, the Packers activated linebacker Kamal Martin from injured reserve, and star defensive tackle Kenny Clark. Both will make their returns in week six against the Buccaneers. In weeks to come, we could have one Jones brother dominating on offense, while the other Jones brother dominating on defense.
