The Green Bay Packers sit at an 11-5 record, which is usually a pretty good position in the NFL. The problem with this particular 11-5 record is that Green Bay hasn’t had that true statement win.
After being swept by division rivals in the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions this season, the Packers must show that they can win against elite teams.
Green Bay struggled to get their offense going against Minnesota on Sunday. They started to get things clicking in the 4th quarter, but it was too late to capture the lead.
A True Statement Win
The list of teams the Pack has beaten this season; Texans, Cardinals, Rams, Bears, Saints, Dolphins, 49ers, Colts, Jaguars, Seahawks and the Titans. These teams have a combined record of 71-103.
The list of teams that Green Bay has lost to; Eagles, Vikings (2x) and the Lions (2x). These are all teams that will stand in their way come playoff time. Quarterback Jordan Love has committed a chunk of his turnovers versus these teams as well.
Green Bay needs to show the world that they can compete with the best of them. Even though they fight hard in every contest, being able to finish off a championship contender will show what they are truly made of.
How Will Things Go In The Playoffs?
At the end of the day, football is about any given Sunday. The Packers have shown that they can keep a game close and keep a great team on the ropes, but ultimately winning the game is a struggle. Even dating back to last year’s playoff game versus San Francisco, they struggled to finish off the eventual NFC champions.
With the Lions being shorthanded due to brutal injuries, Green Bay can take advantage of this come playoffs. Ultimately, it is extremely difficult to beat a team three times in one season, so the Pack has a chance to make the Super Bowl favorites pay. Minnesota on the other hand, is a different beast. Their defense isn’t depleted like Detroit’s, and they’ve shown the entire league that they aren’t pretenders per usual.
The Packers have a chance to make a run in the postseason, and they could run into familiar foes. In the 2024 season, they did not prove they could beat the best of the best. The playoffs are a new stage though, and they’ve been there before.
