Christian Watson is among the players in the Green Bay Packers locker room frustrated with how their season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles played out. Not only did the defense failed to stop Jalen Hurts and the Eagles from scoring, but the offense also had their share of problems.
Matt LaFleur needs to make adjustments to the offensive line after forcing Jordan Love to move out of the pocket plenty of times. Malik Willis also needs to step up his game as he prepares to make his first start as a member of the Packers.
However, one of the team’s top receivers look at things differently. He believes that there’s one thing the Packers failed to do against the Eagles that they should focus on executing when they face the Indianapolis Colts at Lambeau Field.
Christian Wood wants the Green Bay Packers to improve their efficiency at the red zone
Forbes’ Rob Reischel detailed the factors the Packers need to focus on to win Week 2 without their star quarterback. He detailed what one of the team’s top wideouts had to say about the team’s effectiveness in the red zone:
“I think every single drive, every single bit of points that we left out there is important,” wideout Christian Watson said after the Eagles loss. “The defense gave us opportunities early to run away with it a little bit. We didn’t execute as well as we should have but that’ll be an emphasis in the film room and we’ll find a way to overcome.”
Reischel also noted that the Packers have struggled to find a winning formula in converting in the red zone. Some may blame the lack of a reliable WR1 as the root of the problem, while others look at Matt LaFleur’s scheme ass a poor fit with what he has on the 53-man roster.
Regardless of the cause of the issue, the Green Bay Packers cannot hope to make a serious run for the Super Bowl if they cannot convert in the red zone. Adjustments must be made if they want to make a serious run for the Lombardi.
