The Green Bay Packers have found a lot of success on the ground in recent years with Aaron Jones. Now with Jones on his way to Minnesota and Josh Jacobs on his way to Green Bay, they hope to keep that success flowing.
The Detroit Lions seem to have heard that call and went out of their way to obtain one of the scariest run stuffers in the NFL. Now under a new running regime, the Green Bay Packers must find out how to crack the code of the Detroit Lions upgraded run defense.
The Detroit Lions Sign D.J. Reader
The Detroit Lions in 2023 allowed only 3.7 yards per carry and was second last in the league in yards allowed. However, it seems they think they can get better with the addition of a star defensive tackle.

D.J, Reader stands at a massive 6’3 335. Drafted in the fifth round to the Houston Texans in 2016, the soon to be 30 year old defensive lineman has made himself a factor in the NFL. In his last three seasons he has hosted immaculate PFF scores of 80.8, 87.3, and 82.2. The Clemson alumni has tallied over 277 total tackles and 23 tackle for losses in his 8 year career.
He doesn’t only make a living eating up double teams in run defense but is an exceptional pass rusher as well. Reader has averaged over 30 QB pressures a season with the Cincinnati Bengals the last three seasons, as well as accrued 9.5 sacks in his career.
D.J. Reader Fight With The Green Bay Packers
In a joint practice between the Green Bay Packers and Cincinnati Bengals in 2023 D.J Reader was involved in a fight that resulted in Elgton Jenkins being removed from practice. D.J. Reader did not mince words after the practice, taking shots at the premier left guard Jenkins.
“Man, he’s a jag, man,” Reader said. “I don’t know that guy. No idea who he is. I mean, I see he made two Pro Bowls, so good for him, but he blocked for Aaron Rodgers. That don’t make you nobody.”
It can be assured that this event has not been forgotten by the Green Bay Packers or D.J. Reader, It seems that Reader fits in well with the competitive culture of the NFC North.
