The Green Bay Packers are coming off of a tough overtime win on Sunday against the New England Patriots 27-24. The Packers offense had flashes, and some missed opportunities that could have won the game in regulation. But the defense once again stepped up in the end.
Green Bay’s run defense gave up some plays during the game, but it picked up as it came to a close. One defensive player has made an early case for DPOY through the first 4 games in 2022.
Packers OLB Rashan Gary
Rashan Gary has been the big star during the first four games of the season. He has recorded at least one sack since Week 1. On Sunday against the Patriots, the four year Packers outside linebacker continued to pad his stats.

Gary Is A Monster
In the first quarter Rashan Gary knocked out the New England Patriots backup quarterback Brian Hoyer that sent him to the locker room. Hoyer did not return to the game due to an apparent head injury. Not only did he send the backup to the sideline, but he also got to the 3rd string QB Bailey Zappe.

The young QB had not played in a tough environment like Lambeau Field until Sunday. It was not an easy game for the 3rd string quarterback. Zappe went 10-15 for 99 yards, and one touchdown. Gary was all over the field, whether it was getting to the QB alone or assisting on a tackle.
Packers OLB Could Be DPOY
After the win over the New England Patriots, Gary could be in the running for Defensive Player of the Year. He still has 13 more games to add to his stat sheet. The Packers linebacker is a force to be reckoned with. Teams that the Packers have left on the schedule will be trying to stop and play around #52.
If he continues to shine and make an impression throughout the rest of the season, that title may be crowned in his name. Gary is certainly putting his heart out there, and is definitely getting some national attention with his play thus far.
The Green Bay Packers travel to London on Sunday October 9th to take on the New York Giants!
