MOBILE, Ala. — The Green Bay Packers may look to significantly upgrade the defensive line during the early rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft, and one of the top prospects at the position was one of the biggest standouts during this year’s Senior Bowl practices.
Virginia Tech defensive lineman Aeneas Peebles looked every bit the part of the kind of game-wrecker the Packers would be wise to prioritize this spring, as a potential centerpiece along new defensive line coach DeMarcus Covington’s unit.
Tuesday, Peebles blew up a running play in the backfield on the first snap of the National Team’s first 11-on-11 period and on the very next play used a nasty swim move to shrug off and get past an offensive lineman to pressure the quarterback and force an incompletion.
“I’m pretty confident in my whole arsenal,” Peebles told me after practice. “That’s one of the things I pride myself in, not being predictable, throwing a different pitch every time I’m up to bat.
“Whether it’s a spin outside, or a spin inside, a spin from the two-hour or a spin from the three, or a chop-club, I can go on for days, and days. I pride myself on being versatile.”
At 6-foot-1 and 290 pounds, Peebles produced 30 total tackles last season with three sacks, but seems to have the traits and skill set to be even more disruptive, and productive at the NFL level.
Given the Packers’ need to bolster the pass rush to further enhance the impact of the secondary in coordinator Jeff Hafley’s scheme, Peebles could be a top target to watch for Green Bay.
