Packers “Expected to Pursue” Elite Playmaker to Help Jordan Love

The Packers‘ listless NFC Wild Card loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday afternoon, that saw the receiving corps drop like flies due to injury, shined a light on Green Bay’s glaring need to upgrade quarterback Jordan Love’s receiving corps.

Green Bay’s inconsistent receiver play throughout the 2024 campaign, coupled with the uncertainty surrounding Christian Watson’s availability for the 2025 season after tearing his ACL in Week 18 could spark general manager Brian Gutekunst and the organization to spend big at the position this offseason.

According to ESPN’s Benjamin Solak, the Packers are expected to go shopping at the top of the wide receiver market, and pursue Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver–and impending free agent, Tee Higgins. Solak even suggests the Packers could jump the market by attempting to trade for Higgins, perhaps even including a wide receiver such as Romeo Doubs in the package.

Why the Packers Should Try to Acquire Tee Higgins

Higgins, 25, is one of Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow’s most explosive weapons, opposite All-Pro Ja’Marr Chase, and would instantly rise to the top of the Packers’ depth chart and Love’s target hierarchy.

Acquiring Higgins would give Love a game-altering weapon in the vein of A.J. Brown in Philadelphia, Justin Jefferson in Minnesota, or even Terry McLaurin in Washington, which the Packers seem to lack, at the moment.

Through his first five seasons, Higgins has caught 330 passes for 4,595 yards with 34 touchdowns, as one of Burrow’s favorite targets. In Green Bay, Higgins would emerge from Chase’s shadow and become a No. 1 wide receiver on an offense that would significantly benefit from a reliable field-stretcher on the perimeter.

The Packers enter the offseason with upwards of $63.375 million in cap space, one year removed from being big spenders on the likes of safety Xavier McKinney and running back Josh Jacobs. Gutekunst and Green Bay would be wise to deploy a similar strategy to get Higgins into a Packers uniform in the coming months.
