Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs made some waves when he suggested the franchise needs to add some help at receiver for quarterback Jordan Love, and seems to have ruffled at least one of his teammates’ feathers.
“I think we need a guy that’s proven to be a #1 WR already,” Jacobs said, during a recent appearance on Bill Simmons’ “No B.S.” Podcast.
While the Packers have committed to trying to surround Love with young weapons such as Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, as well as tight ends Tucker Kraft and Luke Musgraves, the offense sputtered down the stretch and Green Bay has failed to see a true No. 1 receiver emerge from the pack.
Jacobs’ comments didn’t sit too well with Wicks, who shortly after the running back’s criticism spread like wildfire across the internet, took to social media with this post:
Dontayvion Bricks (sorry, Wicks) needs a wake up call. You ain’t a #1 bro.

Wicks caught 39 passes during the 2024 season for 415 yards and five touchdowns, but was held to just two catches for 39 yards in the Packers’ NFC Wild Card Playoff loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Meanwhile, the Packers’ leading receiver was Reed, who failed to surpass 1,000 receiving yards, finishing his season with 55 catches for 857 yards and six touchdowns.
Jacobs brings up a valid point that for the Packers’ offense to take the next step, and for Love to continue to progress his development as one of the game’s top quarterbacks, Green Bay needs to add a legitimately consistent game-altering talent at receiver.
Whether it is prioritizing the position at the top of the NFL Draft, or shopping at the top of the free agent market this spring, the Packers can take a big step towards becoming a more well-balanced and explosive offense by adding a playmaking receiver. Whether Wicks likes it, or not.
