The Green Bay Packers are going into the final week of the regular season looking to stay healthy (and beat the Chicago Bears for the 12th consecutive time). In two weeks, Green Bay will appear in their second straight post season with Jordan Love under center.
Now Green Bay is doing whatever it takes to get a competitive advantage.
The Green Bay Packers Just Made A Huge Move For Jordan Love In The Playoffs (Report)
As previously reported:
As coach Matt LaFleur has used veteran defensive coach Robert Saleh to help the offense, he is now using former offensive coordinator Luke Getsy to advise their defense:
Getsy was at practice on Friday as the Packers prepare for the Chicago Bears in the season finale. LaFleur confirmed Getsy has been in an advisor role with the Packers for weeks.
“Really, this is the first week he’s been here (in person). He’s been working with us, similar with how Saleh is working with the offense, he’s been working with the defense,” LaFleur said Friday. “Good to have him back around…he’s just a positive guy to be around, it’s been good.”
LaFleur brought on Getsy as his quarterbacks coach during his first season in Green Bay in 2019. He remained in the role for the next three seasons, working with both Aaron Rodgers during his two MVP seasons and helping develop Jordan Love during his first two seasons.
From 2014 to 2017, Luke Getsy served as wide receivers coach and offensive quality control coach for the Packers under Mike McCarthy. Under LaFleur, he was hired by the Packers as quarterbacks coach in 2019 after a season as offensive coordinator for Mississippi State:
His work was so good that he was promoted to passing game coordinator alongside the QB coach position. Over the following two seasons, Aaron Rodgers won the MVP award twice.
That led to opportunities as an offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears in 2022 and 2023 and with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2024. He was not as successful and ended up being fired midseason in each of the last two years — certainly, it didn’t help that his quarterbacks were Justin Fields and Gardner Minshew.
Now, while he awaits for a new full-time opportunity, he’s back with the Packers to offer the defensive coaches an offensive point of view.
“It’s always great to have a different perspective, maybe something that you haven’t seen,” LaFleur added. “I’ve worked with him previously, so just got a lot of trust in the guy and really value his perspective.”
