The Green Bay Packers are ramping up for their second post season run with Jordan Love under center.  After entering the season as a seven seed last year, they came within three points of reaching the NFC Championship game.

In order to get there this year, Green Bay has brought in another offensive mind for their defense.

As coach Matt LaFleur has used veteran defensive coach Robert Saleh to help the offense, he is now using former offensive coordinator Luke Getsy to advise their defense:

Getsy was at practice on Friday as the Packers prepare for the Chicago Bears in the season finale. LaFleur confirmed Getsy has been in an advisor role with the Packers for weeks.

“Really, this is the first week he’s been here (in person). He’s been working with us, similar with how Saleh is working with the offense, he’s been working with the defense,” LaFleur said Friday. “Good to have him back around…he’s just a positive guy to be around, it’s been good.”

LaFleur brought on Getsy as his quarterbacks coach during his first season in Green Bay in 2019. He remained in the role for the next three seasons, working with both Aaron Rodgers during his two MVP seasons and helping develop Jordan Love during his first two seasons.

“It’s always great to get a different perspective, maybe something you haven’t seen,” LaFleur said. “I’ve worked with him previously, just have a lot of trust in the guy and really value his perspective.”

The Packers now have two veteran coaches assisting the other side of the football — Getsy for Jeff Hafley and the defense and Saleh for LaFleur and the offense.

LaFleur said Getsy is known as “the mayor” around Green Bay.

Getsy was an assistant coach on offense under Mike McCarthy between 2014 and 2017 and returned as the quarterbacks coach under LaFleur in 2019.

He also served as the passing game coordinator between 2020 and 2021 before taking an offensive coordinator job with the Bears in 2022.

Getsy was the playcaller for the Bears in 2022 and 2023 and the offensive coordinator for the Las Vegas Raiders for nine games in 2024. He was fired by the Raiders on Nov. 3.

The date of Getsy’s arrival in an advisor role is unknown, but LaFleur says Getsy has been watching tape from afar.

Green Bay will finish their regular season against the Chicago Bears on Sunday at 12:00 CT.  Green Bay will also find out who they will play in the wild card round of the playoffs.
