The Packers had a humbling loss against the Giants on Sunday. A 27-22 loss after going up 17-3 does not look good. The unit that looked the worst was the defense. After starting with two straight three and outs, the Packers could not stop anything. After the game, Packers defensive back Rasul Douglas took the blame for poor defense.
Rasul Douglas Takes Blame For Poor Defense
Rasul Douglas in the locker room: “I’m pretty sure we all feel bad. Looking around, we all look bad. I just told everybody it was my fault. I had three uncharacteristic f***ing penalties that I don’t usually get, but I had them. That f**ked the whole defense up.”

Douglas did not have his best game. However, Rasul Douglas still took blame for the loss. He had some uncharacteristic penalties and overall just didn’t look like himself. Rasul Douglas knows this. “I just told everybody it was my fault” Douglas said in this postgame interview. He went on to talk about the three penalties that really affected the game. He was very adamant that he had screwed up the entire defense (Douglas used stronger language which you can see above). This is the type of response you want to see from your players following an ugly loss.
Differing Responses In The Locker Room
After the game, many players, including Jaire Alexander, were already talking about losing to the Jets next week. Aaron Rodgers called out this kind of talk as “not what winning teams do”. I couldn’t agree more. Rasul Douglas’ comments are the types of comments that you want to see after a loss. He takes personal responsibility for his play and vows to be better. I love Jaire Alexander but already talking about a loss next week is just not a great look.
Hopefully this week was a wake up call. A loss like this can go one of two ways. Either it lights a fire under the team or begins a spiral. Hopefully it is not the latter. I expect Rasul Douglas to play better next week as he took the blame for the loss. The Packers need to right the ship soon or this season will start to spiral fast.
