The Green Bay Packers have claimed offensive lineman Luke Tenuta off waivers Monday from the Indianapolis Colts according to his agent.
Tenuta played his college ball at Virginia Tech. He played 26 games throughout his college career, starting 12 games as a senior, 11 of those starts were at left tackle. In 2021 he was named to the All-ACC third team. In addition, he was a 2022 East-West Shrine Bowl Invitee and an All-ACC honorable mention. After his impressive college career was over the Buffalo Bills selected him in the 6th round, 209th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Despite playing 152 snaps in the preseason and allowing one sack, the Bills released Tenuta on August 30th, 2022. Luckily it didn’t take much time for Tenuta to find work again. The very next day the Indianapolis Colts claimed Tenuta off waivers.
Standing at 6’8 and 320 pounds, Tenuta is a mammoth of a man. The Packers allowed four sacks on Sunday against the Jets so having someone that massive isn’t a bad idea. Aaron Rodgers has also been sacked 15 times this season which ties him at 8th most in the league. Green Bay has issues all over the field this season. The offensive line has been one of them.
Family ties for Tenuta
Luke Tenuta and his father have a strong connection with football. Tunuta’s dad Jon Tenuta has a long list of collegiate teams he has coach at, starting as far back as 1981. However, more recently this year Jon has been the defensive coordinator and linebacker coach for the New Orleans Breakers, a USFL team.
Green Bay actively seeking assistance
Green Bay has been active the day after a ugly 27-10 loss to the Jets. Not only did the claim Tenuta off waivers but they are also are working out free agent WR, Ty Fryfogle, this week. Nevertheless, can either of these players be key components for the Packers moving forward this season?
