NFL news: It’s not just Jordan Love who has a big year ahead of him. Multiple players on the Green Bay Packers’ roster will also have some high expectations to face in 2023, which also includes rookie tight end Luke Musgrave. After Green Bay used their second-round pick on the former Oregon State standout, you just know that there’s also going to be a lot of pressure for the rookie to perform in his debut campaign.
NFL News: Jordan Love Has High Hopes for Luke Musgrave in 2023
If you ask Jordan Love, however, he is fairly confident that his new teammate will have a significant impact on the team this coming season. The Packers’ new QB1 has a formidable weapon in Musgrave, and it sounds like Love and the Packers offense intend to utilize him as much as they can:
”It’s going to be huge for us,” said Love after Wednesday’s practice on the addition of Musgrave and his speed, via Packers Wire. “We’ve been building that in, wanting to take a shot to Luke so he can run to the races. I think it’s going to add more capabilities for the tight ends, more versatility for them to run different routes, different concepts, and make it harder for defenses to cover everybody.”
Musgrave is also expected to draw a lot of attention from opposing teams’ defenses, which means that he will also be able to open up the play for his other teammates, particularly for Green Bay’s passing game. The Packers will also look for Musgrave to be a key contributor in this area in 2023.
NFL News: Packers GM Wants to See What Luke Musgrave Can Bring to the Table
One thing we know about head coach Matt LaFleur’s offense is that his tight ends also play a crucial role when it comes to blocking. This is something the Packers expect from Musgrave as well. So much so, that Green Bay GM Brian Gutekunst has played down the prospect of re-signing veteran Mercedes Lewis in order to fill this need. In his mind, the high-ranking Packers exec wants to see what Musgrave (and Tucker Kraft) will bring to the table first:
“We never shut the door on these things,” said Gutekunst, “but at the same time, for us we drafted two guys fairly high that we really want to see get reps and get out there. Along with Tyler Davis and Josiah Deguara, we are really excited about those guys and what they can do for us.”
As mentioned previously, it’s going to be a big year for Luke Musgrave in 2023.
