The New York Jets already have plenty of star power for Hard Knocks episodes this season, but they could add more characters to the team before training camp. The Jets are all-in to win a Super Bowl this season after trading with the Green Bay Packers for Aaron Rodgers.
The Jets signed several free agents on offense Rodgers is familiar with this offseason. Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb will mix with the Jets’ 2022 draft pick studs Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall.
Questions have been raised recently if the Jets have done enough to fortify the offense for Rodgers this offseason, even with those signings. The offensive line could use some improvement before camp. But most of the major headlines around the Jets are about signing wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and running back Dalvin Cook.
Jets players are in on the hope they can land one of them.
NFL News: A New York Jets TE recruits Dalin Cook
According to a transcription by Nick Shook with the NFL, Jets tight end Tyler Conklin said the team has the space to add Cook to the offense:
“There’s plenty of room. We’ve got room for whoever wants to come help us win a Super Bowl,” Conklin said Monday during an appearance on Good Morning Football. “Me and Dalvin were basically lockermates my first couple years (in Minnesota), and he was an awesome guy. I reached out to him because I was just curious, like are the rumors true? Is this actually possible?
“That’d be a special backfield with Breece (Hall) and Dalvin and the rookie (Israel Abanikanda) and whatnot, Mike Carter. I don’t know. That’s a lot of running backs, but I think that’d be special, especially in this outside zone scheme.”
The Jets need a running game to help support a starting quarterback who is nearing 40. Rodgers is a season removed from winning the NFL MVP, so he still has tread, but extra support can only help.
The Jets should consider trading for or signing help on the offensive line. The Jets have plenty of skilled weapons. Even though running backs make the headlines, bringing in a veteran like Packers left tackle David Bakhtiari could bring more value than another wide receiver or running back Rodgers would have to learn to sync up with.
