Rashan Gary became a major part of the Green Bay Packers defense when Za’Darius Smith missed significant time in 2021. In 2022 he was arguably the best player on defense until he tore his ACL. He is still recovering from that same injury while the team has started training camp. However, his impact on the field is still evident, according to Brian Gutekunst.
How is Gary still making an impact for the Green Bay Packers?

On Friday, Brian Gutekunst was asked about the leaders on the team after the Green Bay Packers lost many veteran voices in free agency. A young team means there is a new opportunity for players to step up and be a leading voice on the squad. Gutekunst highlighted Rashan Gary as a guy who has been motivating the team despite being sidelined by his injury.
“Rashan, who hasn’t practiced yet, the way he’s pushing Elgton [Jenkins], De’Vondre [Campbell], and Quay [Walker]. Some of these guys have done stuff in the past, but I think now they are more prominent in those leadership roles, and that’s a really good thing for us.”
Rashan Gary was not the only player that Brian Gutekunst mentioned by name. He also called out Jaire Alexander and Aaron Jones. Since the Packers are a very young team it will fall on guys like Alexander and Jones to lead the team. Last season they had the voices of Aaron Rodgers and Marcedes Lewis who both have played close to 20 years in the NFL. They lack that type of veteran presence, but it seems like guys are stepping up. Not to mention all the reports about Jordan Love’s command of the huddle and leadership role on the team.
