There is still a portion of Green Bay Packers fans that are holding out hope that Mason Crosby will somehow find his way back to the team. However, that hope, if it had any life left in it, just took another blow on Wednesday. In his weekly mailbag, Packers inside Matt Schneidman of The Athletic put the proverbial nail in the coffin of any notion that Crosby might return.

Mason Crosby Is Not Coming Back to the Green Bay Packers
A fan wrote a question to Schneidman asking if they should be worried about the Packers’ kicking situation. Anders Carlson, a sixth round pick, was not highly touted and many believe Green Bay could have gotten him as an undrafted free agent. Schneidman responded:
“I would be cautiously optimistic about rookie Anders Carlson instead of worried. Sure, there’s always an unknown that accompanies change at a position occupied by one player for the last decade and a half, just like there is at quarterback for the Packers.
“But Mason Crosby isn’t coming back. After how coordinator Rich Bisaccia helped transform Green Bay’s special teams units last season, I would trust the decisions he makes. He knows Carlson from his four seasons coaching brother Daniel, the Raiders’ kicker, and had a significant influence on the sixth-round pick.”
Well, there it is. Another final confirmation that Green Bay is sticking with their youth movement. While there is a great deal of uncertainty regarding Carlson, the same could have been said of Crosby when he was first drafted. After all, he was a sixth round pick, too, and was essentially taking over for long-time kicker Ryan Longwell.
As Schneidman noted, Carlson has a history with Packers special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia, who coached his brother Daniel in Las Vegas. Under Bisaccia’s coaching, Daniel Carlson became an All-Pro kicker.
Perhaps he can have the same effect on Anders.
