The Green Bay Packers may not have four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers in training camp after trading him to the New York Jets, but they did have five-time MVP Peyton Manning visit camp on Monday. Manning was there with representative from his media company, Omaha Productions, to talk about an upcoming project. (Note: it does not sound like Jordan Love will be on the next season of “Quarterbacks.”)
On Tuesday, head coach Matt LaFleur revealed one lesson he learned from Manning in 2008, his first year as a NFL coach with the Houston Texans. Jordan Love, too, shared a lesson that the Hall of Fame quarterback taught him during his brief visit.
Peyton Manning Encourages Jordan Love to Tell the Green Bay Packers How He Wants to Be Coached
According to Ryan Wood of USA Today, Love shared the following lesson he learned through his conversation with Manning:
“He had a lot of really good gems just in terms of taking notes, how you watch film. When you’re at home by yourself, are you writing down questions? Things you can come back, ask your coaches later.
“How are you asking to be coached? Are you a guy that wants to be coached really hard? Are you a guy that kind of just wants to do your own thing? It all really matters. He said that when he was a player, that was his biggest thing. He wanted to be coached really hard. He always wanted to be told when he was doing wrong. Things like that.”
It will be interesting to see how Love chooses to be coached from this point forward. His predecessor, Aaron Rodgers, loved to be able to do his own thing. However, Love has had to be coached rather heavily in order to get to this point. He may choose to be coached hard.
Whatever he chooses, he is going to do what he feels is best for him and for the team. It’s his time.
