All offseason, many Green Bay Packers writers (including myself) have talked about different the offensive will be in 2023 with Jordan Love under center instead of Aaron Rodgers. These claims have made sense considering a couple of factors, one of which being how much control Rodgers had over the Green Bay offense.
That being said, Love was recently interviewed on NFL+, and when asked how the offense would be different with him instead of Rodgers, he said, “I’m not exactly sure.” However, and this is a big however, there was one thing Rodgers did that Love stated he was not going to do.
Jordan Love Will Not Change the Plays of Green Bay Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur Like Aaron Rodgers Did

Jordan Love revealed many things during his interview. A man of faith, the bracelet he wears says “I am second” because “God is first.” His leadership style is going to be a bit more fun than Rodgers’ was. And when it comes to the offense, he is going to actually trust his head coach.
Stacey Dales asked Love how different the offense was going to look, and Love responded:
“I’m not sure exactly. I mean, the offense, the plays we’re running are going to be the same. A lot of the guys, the veterans, some similar faces as to who were here last year. But for the most part, obviously a new quarterback, but I’m still going out there to make every play.
“You know, playing the system and just trying to get these guys the ball and let them go do what they do.”
Dales then asked him about how much freedom he would have at the line of scrimmage because LaFleur said that he has complete control and understanding of the playbook. Love responded:
“Yeah, I mean you know it comes down to the plays, exactly what play is called. We have cans on certain plays and things we can check to, but for the most part we’re going to let the plays ride, let it run, and play in that system.
We’re not trying to get to crazy and do different things, because I trust Matt, that he’s going to call the right play and we’re just going to let it run.”
And this is kind of the point that Packers writers have been trying to make all season. The LaFleur offense, if it is anything like the Shanahan one that he came from, is very middle of the field, tight end, and running back heavy. Rodgers very rarely utilized any of those things and often called out of or eliminated plays from the offense that called for them.
Now, this is not to say that Love will not audible if he sees something in the defensive lineup that would make a play blow up, or if there is something he can take advantage of. Like he said, though, there are other plays built into the system that he can choose from in those scenarios.
If Packers fans were tired of Aaron Rodgers hero ball, or his letting the play clock go down to zero on a regular basis, they will find Love’s play a breath of fresh air.

Last year — it seems like the Packers first drive of the game was very successful. However, it seems that things changed after that first drive frequently. I certainly hope Love runs the called plays, because #12 was not too good in the red zone last year after the audibles. He was predictable and got killed n the red zone by the Giants, Jets, and twice by Detroit. You have 2-3 guys in the booth, the backup QB and the head coach watching the defense for the QB on the field. If you trust your coaching staff, run the plays.
