The Minnesota Vikings completed the trade with the Detroit Lions at last year’s deadline for T.J. Hockenson, a tight end the Green Bay Packers were interested in last year. The Packers were able to undercut the Vikings and poach a tight end off waivers Wednesday morning who likely would have been retained on Minnesota’s practice squad to start the season.

Ben Sims had a good 2023 preseason
Sims is a UDFA who played college football for Baylor. He was named honorable mention All-Big by the league coaches in 2022. The sizable six-foot-five tight end caught 78 passes for 785 yards and 12 touchdowns during his four-year career at Baylor.

Sims was the Vikings’ third-highest leader in receiving yards during the preseason. Sims caught three passes for 53 yards.
Sims will add another rookie presence to the Packers’ tight end depth on the active roster. He’ll join 2023 draft picks Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft on the 53-man roster. The Packers needed another tight end after Tyler Davis suffered an ACL injury this preseason.
