Michael Vick made a pretty bold statement about former Green Bay Packers assistant coach Andy Reid. According to Dov Kleiman’s transcription, the former NFL quarterback told Tyreek Hill on the It Needed To Be Said Podcast that Reid’s consistent coaching skills could make him the best coach of all time in the league:
“Vick, who played under Andy Reid during his time with the Philadelphia Eagles, stated, “He might be the greatest coach of all time. You don’t have to win (as many) championships to be considered.”
Reid is considered one of his generation’s best head coaches. His career has been overshadowed by New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, who has gotten the best of Reid in Super Bowl XXXIX and the AFC Championship Game for the 2018 season.
However, recency bias will help Reid’s case. His Chiefs have won two of the last four Super Bowls. Reid has made it to three Super Bowl appearances with quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Belichick is on the hot seat this season after the Patriots’ struggles in the post-Tom Brady era.
Belichick has more all-time wins and a better winning percentage (.662 vs. .641). But both have been innovators of the game—Belichick on defense, Reid on offense.
Fans react to Michael Vick’s comments on a former Green Bay Packers coach
It’s impossible to compare the two now that Reid has Mahomes because as Reid is slowly catching Belichick in trophies, we see how much circumstances can cause our perceptions of greatness to change.
Fans chimed in with their thoughts on Reid’s legacy. Here are the best takes on Michael Vick saying Reid is possibly the GOAT of NFL head coaches.
Andy was winning with Kevin Kolb and AJ Feeley… how many winning seasons does Bill have WITHOUT Brady? https://t.co/sKzDQEMNut

Let me know when Belichick goes 4-12 like Reid did in 2012. https://t.co/eGOukWqiDd

Recency bias and favoritism are really kicking in here and it’s so incredibly unserious. Clearly Reid ain’t beat the hell out of y’all teams enough https://t.co/KQbaMexroq

When it’s all said and done, Reid definitely has a case to be one of the greatest coaches ever shiddd maybe even better than Belichick https://t.co/PKFudu4nKS

Reid has won a Super Bowl with one (1) quarterback https://t.co/ob9Gnnv1AB

Andy Reid might be the most overrated coach I’ve ever seen. Do y’all not see how good Patrick Mahomes is? https://t.co/cbifgjrY8J

You mean the guy who was known for choking in the playoffs until mahomes had success with other QBs? Bill went 11-5 with Cassel then the following year went 11-5 with Tom Brady. Brady’s never even won a playoff game without a top 10 defense https://t.co/Pr6LaMjBsr

Without Mahomes, Reid has 0 rings. Without Brady, Belichick has 0 rings… this is definitely a good debate. https://t.co/UmLY97BpY6

Did some research to slander this but it might be accurate. Haven’t seen enough Belichick without Brady to discredit Bill though https://t.co/vKRAmPrA6R
