The Green Bay Packers have the best running back duo in the NFL in Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon. Last season, the team decided to begin the season with just two running backs on their initial 53-man roster. While the number of running backs they will start 2023 with is still up in the air, Aaron Jones seems to think one young player will be a weapon for the Packers this year.
Aaron Jones Predicts Tyler Goodson Will Be a Weapon for the Green Bay Packers
After mini camp practice on Tuesday, Jones spoke to reporters and said of Goodson: “I think Tyler Goodson will be a weapon for us. He’s been out here balling, working hard.”
Goodson, as fans may remember, was an undrafted free agent out of Iowa last season. With Jones and Dillon not playing in preseason games, he received plenty of touches and impressed at times. He impressed the Packers enough for them to retain him on their practice squad last season.
Head coach Matt LaFleur thinks Goodson is setting himself of success as well:
“He’s got a much better grasp of the expectations of what it takes to be a pro. He’s got two great examples in that (running back) room…I think that’s a huge help in that room.”
Jones and Dillon are as good of teammates as there are in the NFL. Both are great professionals that do excellent work both on and off the field.
With Aaron Rodgers now the quarterback of the New York Jets, there may be a bigger emphasis on the running game on the Green Bay offense. If that is the case, Goodson has a good chance of being that weapon Jones believes he can be.
