The Minnesota Vikings pulled a stunner Sunday morning by signing their star defensive pass rusher Danielle Hunter. Fans reacted to the surprise after multiple reports came out that Hunter signed a one-year deal worth up to $20 million. The move will put offensive lines in the NFC North, including the Green Bay Packers, on alert.
Reports came out on Saturday that cast doubt Hunter would have a future with the Vikings. Jeremy Fowler with ESPN wrote the Vikings were exploring options to trade the All-Pro pass rusher after Hunter expressed his unwillingness to play for the $4.9 million base rate he was set to make for the 2023 season.
The Vikings must have rapidly changed their mind to keep him in Minnesota. In less than 24 hours from the time Fowler’s report was published, the Vikings gave Hunter favorable terms, including knocking out a clause that would have made him eligible for the team to use the franchise tag on him in the offseason.

Good deal for Hunter, who gets paid and will hit the market next year. https://t.co/qE40GjxNTx

Big news for the #Vikings. Solidify a big question mark here by bringing back top end edge rusher for a year! https://t.co/mzhuL75OKD

I honestly kind of hate this move. Hunter himself isn’t going to make a substantial difference on the season. We still aren’t going to win the SB. We don’t have him for the long term either. I guess we get a 3rd round comp pick for him. Don’t get the vision here from #vikings https://t.co/Ygf7HJSN5w

Actually on second thought Is this good for the Vikings? What if he has an amazing season? Can’t he leave for nothing now? Lmao idk https://t.co/evpei9lNYS

SB or bust this year. Rebuild a Kirk and Danielle-less team next year. 🟣 https://t.co/dlvBImXH2E
