NFL News: Minnesota Vikings Star Gets Real About Kirk Cousins Not Being Elite

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson is a top-five wide receiver in the NFL. He doesn’t think his teammate, Kirk Cousins, is a top-five quarterback.

Minnesota Vikings star WR ranks quarterbacks

A video recently appeared on Danilo Lacalle’s Twitter account where Jefferson listed who he thought were the top-five quarterbacks in the NFL.

    — Danilo Lacalle (@danlacalle) July 1, 2023

    Justin Jefferson’s top-five QB list:

    1. Patrick Mahomes
    2. Aaron Rodgers
    3. Joe Burrow
    4. Jalen Hurts
    5. Josh Allen

    No Kirk Cousins?

It’s hard to argue with Jefferson’s list. Those are easily the most elite quarterbacks heading into the 2023 season. Cousins isn’t a bad quarterback at all. Pro Football Focus ranks Cousins as the ninth-best quarterback in 2023.

Cousins has had his share of struggles in big games, including in the playoffs. But he’s not a top-five quarterback in the league.

Aaron Rodgers and Jefferson respect each other

But Jefferson’s ranking has to sting Cousins a little bit, especially with the praise Jefferson offered Rodgers as the second-best quarterback after he struggled last year. (Rodgers did have a broken thumb.)

Rodgers respects Jefferson and told the All-Pro wide receiver he “was the best player in the game” after the Green Bay Packers and Vikings game in Week 1 last season. Rodgers’ praise came after Jefferson caught nine passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns in the Vikings’ 23-7 win.

Most analysts consider Jefferson to be a top-five wide receiver. Some even think he is the best. Jefferson and the Vikings plan on working on an extension as early as this offseason. Jefferson should be getting a record-breaking contract for a wide receiver from the Vikings.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How did Kirk Cousins meet his wife?

Kirk Cousins met his wife through a mutual family friend shortly after starting his professional career with the Washington Commanders formerly known as the Redskins. They got committed in less than two years later and were married in June 2014.

Did Kirk Cousins play for the Vikings?

Yes, Kirk Cousins played for the Vikings. He brought a significant impact to the team, helping them achieve a 13-4 record last season after having a 59-59 record as an NFL starter. His remarkable performance made him a perfect fit for the Netflix series.

Why does Justin Jefferson wear number 18?

Justin Jefferson wears number 18 because it holds significant value at LSU. This number was previously worn by quarterback Matt Mauck, who led the Tigers to the 2003 BCS National Championship after healing from a foot injury in 2002.
