Former Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Randall Cobb Issues Strong Warning to Jets Players Regarding Aaron Rodgers

The Aaron Rodgers that the Green Bay Packers had for his last three years in town was nothing like the Rodgers that the New York Jets are currently experiencing. The last few years of Rodgers’ tenure in Green Bay were marred with controversy, conflict, and poor attitudes. Now, Rodgers is patient, stays out of limelight (as much as a starting quarterback can in New York), and is chumming around with Jets’ brass.

Rodgers has also been relatively kind when talking about mistakes that his wide receivers make, chalking it up to learning the system and building chemistry. But his long-time teammate, wide receiver Randall Cobb, knows that kind of Rodgers will not last, and he warned the young players of that on HBO’s Hard Knocks,

Cobb, probably better than anyone, knows how big of a deal it is for Rodgers to trust a wide receiver. An article published by The Athletic last year detailed how hard it was for many young wide receivers to form chemistry with Rodgers due to his lack of patience and demand for perfection.

Even former Packers wide receiver Davante Adams was not spared Rodgers’ wrath for making mistakes, as he detailed in an interview earlier this offseason.

And while Rodgers has been Mr. Friendly so far in his tenure with the Jets, Cobb knows it will not last if the young wide receivers do not stop making mistakes:

“If he don’t trust you, he not gonna throw you the ball.”

“I was just talking to 12, er 8, and he was telling me, you know, we had a lot of mistakes in our room today. Just basic stuff. Little things, right? Like, we can’t have that.

“And it’s all cool right now, but I’m telling you, one day he gonna lose his s—. It’s going to happen if it continues to go the way it’s going right now. Because if he don’t trust you, he not going to throw you the ball, I promise you that!

“If he don’t trust you, he do not like throwing interceptions, so if he can’t trust that you’re going to run the right route, he not going to throw it. It’s just a matter of time.”

Over the last few seasons, an irate Rodgers was not an uncommon sight on the Packers’ bench. From tossing a tablet to heated exchanges, Packers players knew the consequences of making mistakes.

The Jets and Rodgers are still in their honeymoon phase, but that phase is coming to an end. Quickly.

The regular season is not all about building comradery and going to Taylor Swift concerts; it’s about winning, and few have the drive to win more than Rodgers. If his receivers cannot match that and still make mistakes, New York could see a heavy Lazard-Cobb combination this season.
