A rival general manager of the Green Bay Packers is reportedly interested in trading for Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones.
Jones is holding out of the Chiefs training camp this summer as he waits for a new deal from the reigning Super Bowl champions. The star defensive tackle said this week he’d be willing to sit out until Week 8 of the regular season because the All-Pro can afford to do so.
Jones is going off a season where he racked up 15.5 sacks in the regular season. He added another two sacks in the postseason. Jones’ holdout has the interest of general managers who want to improve their defensive line play.

The Chicago Bears need to see improvement in their defensive line from last season. Their defensive line was the worst in the NFL in 2022. According to Carmen DeFalco with ESPN, Bears general manager Ryan Poles has contacted the Chiefs about a potential trade for Jones.

Would the Chicago Bears trade for Chris Jones?
Jones would improve the interior defensive line for the Bears this season and could help the team make a run for the NFC North this season. The Bears upgraded their defensive line during the preseason by signing defensive end Yannick Ngakoue.
Jones would likely fetch a first and some change for the Chiefs to part with the 29-year-old tackle. It would be an interesting decision to see Poles trade for Jones after the Bears drafted three defensive tackles in April’s draft.
However, adding Jones to the Bears’ defensive line would help the team in the short term. The Packers’ offensive line would have to face Ngakoue and Jones in Week 1 if the Bears traded for Jones before the season.
Packers fans shouldn’t be too nervous about the report. The Chiefs aren’t likely to part with their best defender this season. With rumors of Jones being on the trade market out, it’s just due diligence for Poles, who was an assistant for the Chiefs before taking the Bears gig, to ask what the Chiefs would want for Jones in a trade.
