NFL: The Green Bay Packers are getting ready for the 2023 season and their health concern has been relatively low. The team has suffered very few setbacks when it comes to not having their starters on the field. Eric Stokes and Rashan Gary (both were previously expected to miss time) seem to be the only players not in full pads, however, their progression toward week one remains positive. There is one opponent the Packers will face who will now be without their star player.
Alvin Kamara Of The New Orleans Saints Will Miss Matchup With The Green Bay Packers (NFL)
The Saints will be without running back Alvin Kamara for the first three weeks of the season. The NFL announced Kamara’s three-game suspension on Friday, wrapping up a case from early 2022 when the running back was arrested for assault in Las Vegas while he was in town for the Pro Bowl.
Kamara pled no contest last month to a misdemeanor charge of breach of peace, avoiding felony battery charges, stemming from an incident in which the running back and several associates allegedly pushed down and kicked a man in an altercation outside an elevator at the Cromwell Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
In the terms of the plea agreement, Kamara is required to complete 30 hours of community service and pay $105,000 for medical expenses for the victim.
What Does This Mean For The Green Bay Packers?
Alvin Kamara has 395 total yards and three touchdowns in three career games against the Green Bay Packers, but the New Orleans Saints running back won’t be available for Dennis Allen’s team when the Saints come to Lambeau Field for the Packers’ home opener in Week 3.
Kamara, a five-time Pro Bowler, will miss games against the Tennessee Titans in Week 1, Carolina Panthers in Week 2 and Packers in Week 3.
At his best, Kamara is a menacing dual-threat player who can create big plays as a runner and receiver. In each of his three career games against the Packers, Kamara has produced either 100 total yards or scored a touchdown.
The Saints signed QB Derek Carr this off-season and will rely heavily on him over the first three weeks to keep the offense flowing. New Orleans also signed former Packers running back Jamaal Williams this off-season. With Kamara’s suspension, Williams figures to get the full workload over the first three weeks of the year.
