The Chicago Bears have not been a great football team since 2018. They’ve moved on from head coach Matt Nagy and genral manager Ryan Pace. Headed in a completely new direction, with second year quarterback Justin Fields, the Chicago Bears newly hired genral manager issued a statement for the NFC North.
“We’re going to take the North and never give it back”
Who is the New GM
The Bears fired Ryan Pace after the end of their 2021 season and brought in Ryan Poles. He was the executive director of player personel in Kansas City last year. The bears also hired a new head coach after the departure of Matt Nagy. Ryan Poles must have plenty of confidence in first time head coach Matt Eberflus if he thinks the Bears are about to make a turnaround to get to the top of the NFC North.
Packers and the NFC North
The Packers have won the NFC North every year that Matt LaFleur has been head coach. They have three losses in the division in those three seasons. They’ve lost twice to the Vikings and once to the Lions. The Bears are 8-10 against NFC North opponents in that same time span. In reality, the Packers shouldn’t have any reason to view the Bears as a legitimate threat. Regardless of who the quarterback is next year the Packers are, overall, a better football team than the Bears. Outside of the Packers, the Bears still have to worry about the Vikings.
The Bears have a very important off season ahead. The first year GM is going to have to make a lot of changes, and alter his new team in a hurry, if he wants to live up to his word. As of right now, the Bears are not close to dethroning the Packers.
