NBA rumors: There are only a handful of truly noteworthy players in NBA free agency right now. One of them happens to be former Milwaukee Bucks point guard Gordan Dragic, who spent the second half of the 2022-23 campaign after signing with the team as a free agent.
At this point, the 37-year-old veteran could end up reuniting with one of his former teams in the Miami Heat.
NBA Rumors: Heat Linked to Goran Dragic
Heat insider Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald recently reported that the Heat and Dragic’s camp have had talks about a potential return to South Beach for the former All-Star. Dragic is reportedly also willing to reunite with his former team to play alongside the likes of Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo:
“There have been conversations between the Heat and the representation for free agent guard Goran Dragic, who would welcome a return to the team. Any Heat decision on Dragic likely would come later in the summer,” wrote Jackson (paywalled).
The Heat lost a key part of their backcourt rotation in free agency after Gabe Vincent took his talents to the Los Angeles Lakers. Tyler Herro, who himself has been rumored to a move away from Miami, is expected to be Coach Erik Spoelstra’s starting point guard this coming season, with Kyle Lowry serving as his primary backup. Dragic could slide into the rotation at PG, especially considering Lowry’s well-documented injury history. Dragic can play shooting guard as well, so he could potentially compete for minutes with Josh Richardson and Duncan Robinson.
NBA Rumors: Could Gordan Dragic Return to Bucks?
For their part, the Bucks could use an additional point guard in their rotation as well to back up Jrue Holiday. AJ Green has climbed up the pecking order and he is now expected to be the primary backup. It goes without saying that Green isn’t exactly battle-tested just yet, so a veteran presence in Dragic wouldn’t hurt. Despite their seeming unwillingness to re-sign the Slovenian to a new deal, the fact of the matter is that Milwaukee can do far worse than Goran Dragic.
