NBA news: There has been a lot of talk surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo’s status for the national team of Greece ahead of the FIBA World Cup this August. The Milwaukee Bucks superstar has officially been tagged as doubtful for the international tournament that will be held in the Philippines due to a lingering knee injury.

The good news for Greek fans is that Giannis has officially been added to the national squad’s preliminary 18-man pool. This report comes via Euro Hoops.
In spite of this development, however, the report also indicates that there is still no guarantee that Antetokounmpo will be able to suit up for the highly-anticipated tournament.
The former back-to-back MVP recently underwent a minor procedure in his knee after the season ended. The injury is not considered serious, but it could be enough to force him to withdraw from the national squad.
You have to note that this is Giannis Antetokounmpo we’re talking about here, and while he has been through his fair share of injuries throughout his career, I’m still pretty sure he will do everything he can to be able to represent his country for the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

It goes without saying that the Bucks are heavily invested in Giannis’ status for the upcoming tournament. Technically speaking, they could prevent him from playing. After all, they are Antetokounmpo’s employer, and naturally, you expect the team to protect they biggest investment. Obviously, though, that won’t sit well with Antetokounmpo.
Most Bucks fans, however, would prefer not to see Giannis play through this injury in the World Cup. Not only does he run the risk of aggrevating the injury, but also, he will miss out on a chance to get a full offseason of rest ahead of what is going to be a gruelling 2023-24 campaign.
We shall all soon find out how this situation plays out with the World Cup set to commence on August 25th.
