NBA News: Milwaukee Bucks Predicted Number One Target In Free Agency Identified

NBA News: The Milwaukee Bucks are headed into an unexpectedly uncertain off-season.  After their early exit from the 2023 NBA Playoffs, the Bucks moved on from their head coach Mike Budenholzer.  In a somewhat surprising move, Milwaukee hired Adrian Griffin as the next head coach.  They also recently hired assistant coach Terry Stotts.  Now the Milwaukee Bucks will have to start retooling their roster before the 2023-24 NBA season in order to push for a second championship in four years.  That “re-tooling” may come in the form of free agency, and their predicted number one target would be a big splash.

12x All-Star Chris Paul Predicted To Be The Milwaukee Bucks’ Number One Target In Free Agency (NBA News)

Chris Paul was a somewhat surprising named added to the free agency list this year.  The Phoenix Suns waived the 12-time All-Star recently.  The Milwaukee Bucks have been widely talked about as a likely landing spot for the veteran guard.  Dalton Sell of Fansided added to that:

Milwaukee Bucks’ target No. 1 – Chris Paul, Phoenix Suns.  Chris Paul is the talk of the NBA right now, with The Athletic’s Shams Charania reporting that the Phoenix Suns are pondering Paul’s future with the franchise due to a hefty $30.8 million salary for next season that will become guaranteed in late June. If they were to waive him, they would only have to pay $15.8 million of that. While Paul could be traded, the Bucks should have an eye on him if he were to be waived.

Having Paul would undeniably help the Bucks. Many fans think the Bucks should slide Jrue Holiday to shooting guard next season to alleviate some pressure off of him offensively, and Paul is one of many names who could help them do so. Having Paul run the offense would allow Holiday to be more of a defensive hound, which could work well.

The future Hall of Famer would give the Bucks a terrific passer who would thrive alongside players like Holiday and Giannis Antetokounmpo due to the looks he could create. His lethal ability to score in the mid-range and from behind the arc would give the Bucks another reliable scoring threat as well, which they need. It’s no secret that Milwaukee’s offense has been a major issue over these last few years, and getting Paul could help fix that.

Would The Milwaukee Bucks Actually Be Interested In Veteran Guard Chris Paul? (NBA News)

Of course, Chris Paul returning to the Suns is always a possibility, but the Milwaukee Bucks have been named as one of the top landing spots for the guard.  The Bucks would be a natural potential landing spot for Chris Paul. They could use a natural playmaker on the offense and Paul, if nothing else, is that at this point in his career. Any team that signs him should not expect him to play a big role and that’s why the Bucks make sense.

With Chris Paul playing next to Jrue Holiday, Khris Middleton, and Giannis Antetokounmpo, his defensive concerns would be mitigated. If he’s looking for one last shot at winning a title, there is a strong argument to be made that the Bucks would be a great choice.
