NBA news: It has been three long years since Giannis Antetokounmpo lifted the Defensive Player of the Year award. Still, the Milwaukee Bucks superstar considers this title one of the greatest honors he’s achieved in his illustrious career — apart, of course, from his two MVP trophies and his championship ring.
At this point, however, it seems like Giannis is gunning for the DPOY title again this coming season.
NBA News: Giannis Antetokounmpo Sends Out Stern DPOY Reminder
Antetokounmpo recently shared a video of himself on Instagram wherein he showcases what appears to be his brand-new set of wheels. It’s a Land Rover Defender, and naturally, the Bucks superstar just had to make the DPOY connection:
“Riding in style,” Giannis said. “Hey man, when you’re Defensive Player of the Year, you got to ride on a Defender.”

The Defensive Player of the Year title currently belongs to Memphis Grizzlies big man Jaren Jackson Jr. The Grizzlies center averaged 18.6 points on 50.6 percent shooting, 6.8 rebounds (5.0 of them coming on the defensive end), 1.0 steals, and a league-leading 3.0 blocks. This was the second straight year JJJ led the NBA in blocked shots.
For what it’s worth, Giannis came in sixth in the voting this past season. He ranked sixth as well in 2021-22, and fifth the year before that.
It now seems like Antetokounmpo is getting tired of being overlooked in the NBA’s annual awards, and with his recent Instagram post, the 28-year-old appears to have sent out a subtle reminder about how still reigns supreme as one of the top defenders in the NBA. Perhaps he’s going to be at the very top of the food chain again once the upcoming season comes to an end next year?
I wonder what type of car Jaren Jackson Jr. drives, though.
