MLB Trade Rumors: Robert Murray of Fansided recently provided an update as to what he is hearing around the league. His article goes through a few teams and lists them as buyers and sellers. In the NL Central he has the Pittsburgh Pirates listed as sellers and he names two veteran players as the most likely to be traded.
The latest MLB Trade Rumors suggest that LHP Rich Hill and 1B Carlos Santana of the Pittsburgh Pirates could be traded.
Robert Murray is quick to point out that Andrew McCutchen will not get traded at the deadline. He also indicates that closer David Bednar will get interest, but the Pirates believe that they are a few pieces away from contending. They showed flashes of their potential this season, so completely selling off doesn’t make much sense. A few trades involving veteran players is the most likely scenario.
Forget about Andrew McCutchen. He’s not going to be traded. All-Star reliever David Bednar is highly likely to attract interest from contending teams. But the two most likely trade candidates on the major-league roster are left-hander Rich Hill and infielder Carlos Santana. While they are both on expiring contracts, the team values what they bring on the field and in the clubhouse to a team that’s a year away from contending, and won’t move them without getting value in return.
Coming out of the All-Star break the Pittsburgh Pirates have a 41-49 record and are fourth in the National League Central. Look for them to be involved at this years trade deadline.
