Last week the Milwaukee Brewers DFA’d first baseman Jon Singleton for the second time this calendar year. The first time he was DFA’d was in January as he was the causality of the team needing 40-man roster space after signing free agent Brian Anderson. At that time he elected free agency but later returned to the team on a minor league deal.
He ended up starting the 2023 season in Triple-A with the Nashville Sounds. In early June the Brewers re-added him to the 40-man roster and he made his first big league appearance since 2015. Unfortunately he was not able to make the most of that opportunity.
After most recently being let go by Milwaukee, he has decided to decline an outright assignment to Triple-A and is now a free agent.
Milwaukee Brewers News: Jon Singleton becomes a free agent.
At this time Jon Singleton can sign with any team on either a minor or major league contract. Opportunities seem to always arise in Major League Baseball, so it will be interesting to see if he elects to sign with another team or if eventually him and the Brewers agree to bring him back to Triple-A.
Regardless of where he ends up he is a great player to root for with an incredible comeback story. His big league opportunity with the Brewers was limited to approximately three weeks, so hopefully he gets another shot in the near future.
