The Milwaukee Brewers have strung together six consecutive winning seasons (excluding the shortened 2020 season) that have resulted in playoff appearances in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2023 with three division titles. Despite this track record of success the Brew Crew never get the benefit of the doubt and the latest outrageous trade prediction piece from Bleacher Report is evidence of this.
Bleacher report completely disrespects the Milwaukee Brewers in their latest trade proposal piece.
In what is supposed to be a fun trade prediction piece revolving around where top MLB players involved in trade rumors will finish the 2024 season a writer indicated that Milwaukee “remains wholly unclear whether they are contenders or not this season”. He then goes on to say that by July they will be far enough back to part with impending free agent Willy Adames.
Willy Adames is predicted to be traded to the San Francisco Giants.
Entering 2024 the Giants are projected to have rookie Marco Luciano leading the way at shortstop. As with any rookie there has to be realistic expectations set and this Bleacher Report writer felt that the Giants would be searching for an upgrade. Willy Adames is who he predicted San Francisco would trade for.
The San Francisco Giants are viewed more as playoff contenders than the Milwaukee Brewers
It’s disrespecting that this prediction piece views the Brewers as “being far enough back by July” to trade Willy Adames, but the Giants, who are competing in a much tougher division than Milwaukee, will be in playoff contention. The Giants failed to win 80 games last year and have to compete against power houses like the Los Angeles Dodgers, Arizona Diamondbacks, and San Diego Padres.
A season ago the National League Central had the Brewers, Cubs, and Reds all as buyers at the trade deadline. Even if Milwaukee treads water/plays .500 baseball until July they will most likely still be in playoff contention given the expanded post-season format.
Unless the Giants can recreate some of the magic that they had during the 2021 season when they won 107 games trading for an expensive rental player like Willy Adames may not make a ton of sense.
