For the first time in his professional career, Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo has made it to the Olympics as part of Greece’s national team. And while their chance of winning the gold is getting smaller, there’s still one record the two-time NBA MVP can achieve.
In the recent Paris Olympics basketball match, Greece faced a setback as Spain triumphed over them with a score of 84-77. Despite Antetokounmpo’s impressive 27-point contribution and 11 rebounds for Greece, the team couldn’t secure a win, leading them to the brink of an early exit after their second Group A defeat.
Santi Aldama, forward for the Memphis Grizzlies, played a crucial role for Spain with 19 points and 12 rebounds, propelling them to third place in the group standings. Greece’s next challenge lies in a must-win game against Australia to keep their Olympic hopes alive. Meanwhile, Canada’s victory over Australia, led by R.J. Barrett’s 24-point performance, solidified their position at the top of the group. The pressure mounts on Greece as they strive to turn their fortunes around in the face of tough competition.
Antetokounmpo’s individual brilliance has shone through, but collective effort and strategic gameplay are vital for Greece to stay in contention. As the Paris Olympics basketball action unfolds, the intensity of the games continues to captivate fans worldwide, with every match holding significant implications for the teams’ advancement prospects.
Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo Predicted To Get Highest Single Game Point Total
Although Greece is in danger of being eliminated, there’s no reason for the Greek Freak to stay calm on the court. In fact, an article written by Andy Bailey for Bleacher Report projected the Bucks star to set the highest point total in a single Olympic basketball game.
“Giannis Antetokounmpo can dominate any team in just about any setting, and he’s going to have to for Greece to survive the so-called group of death.
His country is in Group A, with Australia, Canada and Spain. And he’s the only NBA player on Greece’s roster.
That’s not necessarily an indictment on their chances. They have several players who’ve had long, successful careers overseas, including Nik Calathes and Kostas Papanikolaou.
But Giannis is going to carry a heavy scoring burden. And that’s going to lead him to a 35-plus-point performance.
There are plenty of other stars in action, but balanced scoring is a little more common in international play. The quarters are shorter, too. So that kind of total will likely give Giannis the single-game high for group play, too,” Bailey wrote.
Last season, Antetokounmpo dropped MVP-worthy numbers with averages of 30.4 points, 11.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and 1.2 steals in 73 games. Having him as Greece’s number one option on offense against countries with shorter rosters will help make that prediction likely to happen.
Greece has one more chance to stave off elimination if they defeat Australia in the Olympics. By then, expect Antetokounmpo to play his heart out on the court soon.
