If the Milwaukee Bucks don’t move fast, their roster for the upcoming season is going to have a lot of holes in it. The front office can remedy that problem if they manage to land guard Ayo Dosunmu from the Chicago Bulls during the offseason.
With veteran guard Patrick Beverley potentially entering free agency, the Bucks’ defense and backcourt rotation may suffer. Dosunmu, who was selected as the 38th pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, has shown promise in his rookie and sophomore seasons.
In his third year, Dosunmu’s performance took a leap by stepping up in the absence of All-Star Zach guard LaVine. He averaged 12.2 points, 3.2 assists, and showcased defensive skills throughout that particular campaign However, acquiring Dosunmu won’t come easy, as it may require giving up key rotation pieces.
Dosunmu’s youth and potential as a shot creator make him an intriguing prospect for any team in free agency. His advantages make him an attractive option, especially when it comes to defense and outside shooting.
Chicago Bulls Guard Ayo Dosunmu Named As Potential Trade Target For Chicago Bulls
If ever Milwaukee’s front office does decide to move him, there’s may be a potential deal waiting to happen. An article by Dalton Sell for Behind The Buck Pass details how this trade can possibly go down.
“The deal is pretty straightforward. To shed Pat Connaughton’s $9.4 million annual salary over the next two seasons, the Bucks attach a first-rounder to him and send him to Chicago. In return, the Bulls give up Ayo Dosunmu, an eye-catching guard set to make around $7 million over the next two seasons,” Sell wrote.
“With Patrick Beverley set to test free agency, the Bucks could very well lose one of their best guards and perimeter defenders. Dosunmu could instantly slide into Beverley’s role, occupying the starting shooting guard slot next to Damian Lillard or coming off the bench to lead the second unit. It would also help the Milwaukee Bucks get younger at the position, as Beverley is 35.
Further highlighting how good of a fit he’d be, Dosunmu shot a career-best 40.3 percent from deep this past season. Playing alongside Lillard, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton, he’d get to tee off from long distance with good looks constantly. Having averaged 12.2 points in that timeframe, he could also provide a nice complementary scoring boost, something that wouldn’t hurt at all,” Sell added.
Dosunmu brings a lot of advantages to the table and plugs a lot of holes in Milwaukee’s rotation. With him around, the core of Lillard and Antetokounmpo can focus more on getting buckets down the offensive end of the court.
The Chicago Bulls guard remains an intriguing prospect for head coach Doc Rivers and the Bucks to pursue. If ever they land him in the offseason, that’s going to be a big win for the team.
