Khris Middleton has surely received all forms of congratulatory messages after he recently became the No. 5 leading scorer in Milwaukee Bucks franchise history. The moment came for the three-time All-Star during Monday’s win against the Chicago Bulls. In the process, Middleton surpassed Bucks icon Michael Redd for the No. 5 spot on the prestigious list.

Middleton got one more special shoutout on Thursday. This came in the form of Redd himself penning an emotional message for Middleton — a player whom Redd took under his wing shortly after they met for the first time.
Redd took to Twitter to express how proud he is of Middleton for this recent milestone:
“I remember the first time I met Khris Middleton,” Redd wrote.
“It was his second season, the first with my beloved Milwaukee Bucks, and Khris was in the training room, laying on a table.
“Now Khris, like me, was a second-round NBA draft pick. Khris, also like me, had an underwhelming rookie season. (Please don’t Google my stats, ha.) When we spoke, then, we already had a lot in common.”

Redd revealed that he saw something special in Middleton during their first meeting. More than a decade later, Redd is happy to confirm that he wasn’t wrong:
“I don’t remember our exact conversation, but I do remember telling Khris that he was wearing a special number — the same No. 22 that I wore — and that he had big shoes to fill. I walked away impressed, feeling like maybe he could do that.
“Well, 1 Championship, 10-plus seasons, and 11,555 points later, it’s safe to say Khris has done that,” Redd wrote.

Finally, Redd acknowledged the fact that he will now have to settle for No. 6 on Milwaukee’s all-time scoring list. It doesn’t seem like he minds at all considering it’s Middleton who has surpassed him:
“I’m proud of Khris, someone I took under my wing after that day, for the career he’s had. I’m proud of Khris for recently passing me to become Milwaukee’s fifth all-time leading scorer. And I’m proud of Khris for the growth I’ve seen in him as an all-around individual.
“I don’t recall our exact first conversation, but I’m pretty sure I’ll remember our next one,” Redd wrote.
