Several days after he was officially hired by the franchise, Doc Rivers found himself losing his Milwaukee Bucks coaching debut against the Denver Nuggets. Along with that loss, Michael Malone pokes fun at his broadcasting stint even before the game started.
The game itself was a thrill to watch as the Bucks narrowly lost to a score of 113-107 against the Nuggets. Giannis Antetokounmpo led his team by notching 29 points on 57 percent shooting from the field, 12 rebounds, and four assists. Damian Lillard added 18 points, while Khris Middleton had 14 points.
On the other hand, both Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic had monster performances that lifted the Nuggets to victory. Denver’s starting point guard led all players in scoring by getting 35 points in 35 minutes. Meanwhile, the two-time MVP posted a triple-double of 25 points, 16 rebounds, and 12 assists against Milwaukee.
Although the Milwaukee Bucks were on the losing end of the game, Rivers’ debut as the team’s head coach is just starting. Expect the All-Star duo of Antetokounmpo and Lillard to string some victories together while they’re on the road.
Michael Malone Trolls Milwaukee Bucks’ Doc Rivers About His Broadcasting Career Before Returning as a Head Coach
Right before the game, Malone joked about what Rivers was doing before he was hired by the Bucks.
In an article by Bally Sports:
“No disrespect to his commentating ability, but it’s good to see him back on the sideline doing what he’s very, very effective at,” said Malone, who picked up his 400th win as coach of the Nuggets on Monday.
After spending 25 years as a coach, Rivers found himself part of ESPN as a TV analyst when the season began. The former Boston Celtics coach teamed up with Mike Breen and Doris Burke to give their take on NBA games during the past few months.
Now, Rivers is back in the middle of where the action is. Expect him and the Bucks to claw their way toward a deep run in the postseason soon.
