There has been a lot of talk surrounding incoming second-year Milwaukee Bucks forward MarJon Beauchamp this coming season. The 22-year-old wasn’t really able to establish himself as a key part of ex-head coach Mike Budenholzer’s rotation, but now that there’s a new man sitting at the helm, Beauchamp is expected to get more opportunities in his sophomore year.
Milwaukee Bucks’ Adrian Griffin Reveals MarJon Beauchamp Outlook
Nothing is guaranteed, though. New coach Adrian Griffin was recently asked about the amount of playing time Beauchamp is expected to get this coming season as fans clamor to see more of the former first-round pick on the floor in 2023-24. Coach Griffin got brutally honest in his response:
“Every year it’s different, obviously, but what doesn’t change is that you’re going to have to compete at a high level,” Griffin said, via Eric Nehm of Bleacher Report. “We have a lot of talent on this team, obviously, and you get what you earn in this league. And if you do the work, you do the work all summer, you’re going to put yourself in a position to compete, and that’s what it’s about. It’s not about my turn or your turn; you get what you earn.”
He could not have said it any better. There’s no denying that Beauchamp has a lot of untapped potential and that he has the makings of being an important player for the Bucks. However, unless he puts the work in, the 6-foot-6 small forward won’t get the chance to showcase what he can bring to the table for Milwaukee.
The good news for Bucks fans is that work ethic-wise, it sounds like MarJon Beauchamp has no problem whatsoever.
Adrian Griffin on Milwaukee Bucks Rotation in 2023-24
Griffin also provided some insight on how he intends to handle his rotation this coming season. The first-year shot-caller spent many years under Nick Nurse with the Toronto Raptors, where they employed a nine-man rotation. When asked if he intends to apply the same to his new team, Griffin said that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach here:
“It’s something that we’ll do collaboratively with our medical team and listening to our players as well,” Griffin said. “To win a championship, you do have to manage bodies and minutes, and you have to stay healthy and we understand that, but we also have to put ourselves in a position so come playoff-time, we have a good seed to compete. We want to put as many things in our favor (as possible) and fighting for those top seeds will pay off in the long run. It is a collaborative thing, so we will work hard with our medical staff to keep guys healthy, but the beauty of our roster is that if someone’s down, it’s next man up.”
While this is true, I’m still pretty sure that Adrian Griffin would prefer that his main guys are healthy for the long haul.
