The Milwaukee Bucks had one of the most disappointing endings to a season that one could have imagined. After finishing the regular season with the NBA’s best record, they lost their opening playoff series to the Miami Heat in five games. The heartbreaking loss has many wondering if head coach Mike Budenholzer will be fired, especially following Giannis Antetokounmpo’s comments about the lack of adjustments following Game Five. It seems as if the loss has one of their star players contemplating retiring after his contract with the team expires in 2025.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Jrue Holiday Reveals When He Plans to Retire
In an appearance on the Point Forward podcast hosted by Andre Iguodala and Evan Turner, Jrue Holiday discussed his thoughts about retirement and stated that it is his current intention to retire after his contract with the Bucks expires following the 2024-2025 season:
“It’s funny because my wife had this conversation with me, I think it was two days ago. She was like, ‘Are you serious after this contract? Are you serious about retiring?’ And I was like, ‘Yes, I feel very strongly about it.’
“And she was like, ‘Well what are you going to do? You need to start thinking about that now.’ And I thought about it, and I have no clue. I feel like there are so many things that I am interested in. I’ll always do the philanthropic work because it’s always, well, you know, it’s never so much for me. To see you put money, and effort, and time into the youth and maybe the people that don’t feel like they matter but they really do, there’s something in that.
“That’s something that I think I’m really going to be more into. Because right now, I’m not going to lie, even with our fund, I do a lot, but it’s not as much as my wife does. I’m still trying to win another championship, I’m still trying to perform, and I still need to get my sleep.”
Well, this is certainly a shocker, Bucks fans. This past season, Holiday made NBA history by making his second All-Star team 10 years after he made his first one. Of course, he famously helped lead Milwaukee to its first NBA title in 50 seasons in his first year with the team.
Holiday has certainly become one of the most beloved players on the team, in large part due to his play on the court, but also because of his work in the community.
There are two seasons remaining on his contract, and hopefully the Bucks make enough changes in the offseason to ensure he gets a title in both of them.
