There’s no denying that the Milwaukee Bucks’ biggest offseason acquisition was seven-time All-NBA point guard Damian Lillard. However, one move that has been flying under the radar as one of the lowkey best additions over the summer is Milwaukee’s coup on veteran shooting guard Malik Beasley.
Beasley himself recently revealed that a handful of teams were interested in signing him via free agency but ultimately, Milwaukee just emerged as the perfect landing spot for him.
Milwaukee Bucks’ Malik Beasley Spills on Relationship With Giannis
One of the reasons behind Beasley’s seemingly seamless transition with the Bucks is because he’s had the full support of the squad. Giannis Antetokounmpo, in particular, has been in his corner since Day 1.
Speaking to NBA guru Shams Charania of The Atheltic, Beasley shed some light on the type of relationship he has with the Bucks talisman:
“When I got there we started training really hard together and learning each other,” Beasley said. “… For Giannis, he’s such a great player and such a great guy. He always wants the best for me.”
A testament to Giannis’ all-out support for Beasley is how the former back-to-back MVP just never ceases to encourage his teammates. Beasley, in particular, got himself called out by Giannis after the former passed on an open shot earlier in the season:
“A month ago or so, I got the ball and passed. I didn’t shoot it. He’s like, ‘Shoot the ball. What are you doing? That’s what you’re here to do,'” Beasley recalled. “He’s very encouraging. He’s a great guy. He wants the best and he wants to win. And I think that’s what we come together and build that bond.”
Getting on His Good Side
You have to credit Beasley for making a real effort to ensure that he fits in with his new team. According to Beasley, he got on Giannis’ good side the moment he was able to make the seven-time All-Star laugh:
“He really is focused on winning,” Beasley said. “When I was able to make him laugh a little bit, I was like, ‘Okay, I can talk to him now.’ … He’s my guy.”
The rest is history.
