Monday night’s brutal loss to the Utah Jazz is now the fourth time the Milwaukee Bucks have lost in the month of January. They’ve only played five games since the calendar turned, which speaks volumes of how poorly this team has started the new year.
To make matters worse, Milwaukee was completely blown out by the Jazz at the Fiserv Forum on Monday. They were down by as much as 33 points in the first half, with the game eventually finishing with a 132-116 scoreline in favor of the visiting team.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Giannis Antetokounmpo Calls for Unity
There’s no denying that Bucks talisman Giannis Antetokounmpo was left frustrated by his team’s performance against Utah. In fact, the former back-to-back MVP admitted after the game that the home crowd had every right to boo the team after their atrocious showing.
Despite the disappointment, however, Giannis still delivered an inspiring message for his team. According to Antetokounmpo, now is the time for the Bucks to band together:
“We gotta stick together,” he said, via Gabe Stoltz of Brew Hoop. “Gotta stick together. That’s it. That’s pretty much it. If you try to go your way or do yourself, it’s not gonna work. We’ve been in this position before. It’s okay to be in this position because like I’ve said, facing adversity brings the best out of you.”
Antetokounmpo then detailed exactly what he expects from his team from here on out. Big picture-wise, the Bucks still have a lot of time this season to figure things out. After all, we haven’t even reached the midway point of the campaign.
However, right now, Giannis wants his team to focus on the little things:
“But again, at the end of the day, we have to get better,” Giannis continued. “We have to realize we have to keep doing the little things and every little thing we do out there, every little box out, every little high low, a guy showing help on the ball, the guy making the pass, the guy getting the offensive rebound and throwing it out for a three … like all of those little things count. When you add all those little things, that’s when you have a winning game. That’s when you have a winning team.”
The Bucks will need to dust themselves off quickly after this devastating loss because up next for them are the mighty Boston Celtics on Thursday night. Then again, this would be the perfect opportunity for Giannis and Co. to start turning things around.
