For nearly a decade, NBA analysts and fans in large markets have been impatiently waiting for Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo to either sign elsewhere or request a trade. To put it plainly, it is the most irritating thing in the world to large media outlets that one of the NBA’s best current players, a top-75 player in NBA history, no less, has chosen to spend over 10 years playing for the smallest market in the league.
The amount of times so-called NBA insiders have proposed trades involving Giannis reached ridiculous levels years ago, but that has not stopped them from continuing to create such insane scenarios in their own minds. Any time the Bucks go on a losing streak, are eliminated from the NBA Playoffs, or suffer any kind of adversity, the “will Giannis ask for a trade” talk fires up again.
So desperate are these people to see the Greek Freak play elsewhere that trade rumors even swirled following Milwaukee’s NBA Championship in 2021. Now, in 2025, he has once again put these silly trade talks to bed.
Giannis Antetokounmpo Says the Milwaukee Bucks Would Have to “Kick Me Out”
In an interview with EuroHoops, Antetokounmpo was asked, specifically, if he would ever request a trade via text message to the Bucks general manager. In his response, Giannis not only shot down the idea of asking for a trade via text message, but also of asking for one in general:
“I don’t think that I would ever text (and ask for a trade), I am not this kind of guy, they would have to kick me out”.
This echoes what he said to the media after he signed his last extension:
“But at the end of the day, I want to be a Milwaukee Buck for the rest of my career, as long as we are winning. It’s as simple as that.”
Undoubtedly, there will continue to be trade rumors and proposals involving Giannis for the entirety of his career. However, Bucks fans can be assured that none of them are coming from him.
He wants to be in Milwaukee.
