It’s a known fact that in order for the Milwaukee Bucks to succeed this season, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard will have to be on the same page.
Milwaukee’s new superstar pairing gave us a brief preview of what we can expect from them this year during Sunday’s preseason win over the Los Angeles Lakers. If this was a sign of what the future holds for these two, then it’s hard to deny that a championship is indeed within grasp for the Bucks in the immediate future.
Giannis Antetokounmpo on Relationship With Milwaukee Bucks Teammate Damian Lillard

What these two do together on the basketball court will be the cornerstone of Milwaukee’s title hopes. However, what’s equally important is the type of relationship they have outside the four corners of the hardwood.
In a recent interview, Giannis was asked to share his thoughts on his similarities with Lillard in terms of both of them being a father of three kids. Antetokounmpo responded by saying that he’s very much looking forward to getting to know Damian Lillard the person:
“Yeah. I’m excited,” Giannis said, via Marc J. Spears of Andscape. “I met his family. Vice versa. He met my family I’m excited. I’m getting to know him. Man, having a Top 75 [NBA] guy, an All-NBA, All-Star, a scoring threat from after half court. Having a guy like that next to you, you can go through the alley late at night and you feel like you’re the bully because you have that guy next to you. So, I’m excited to play with him.”

It’s clear that these two have gotten off on the right foot. They have to. Too much is at stake for them not to get along. When it comes to basketball, these two generational talents are also too good individually for their partnership not to work out. Or at least this is the general assumption from most at this point.
You also have to note, however, that Antetokounmpo somewhat side-stepped the question about his relationship with Lillard off the court. After saying that he’s still getting to know his new teammate, Giannis instead talked about what Dame brings to the table when it comes to basketball.
This shouldn’t be a cause for concern, though. It’s only natural that these two haven’t really gotten close since Lillard took his talents to Milwaukee. After all, it’s only been several weeks. These two will have more than enough time to bond and build a substantial relationship behind the scenes. At the end of the day, that’s going to be the foundation of what they do on the basketball court.
