The Milwaukee Bucks just pulled off the biggest comeback win of the season on Sunday after going down by as many as 26 points against the Portland Blazers and eventually escaping with a 108-102 victory. It was a massive victory for the Bucks, no doubt, but there’s also no denying that they dug their own hole in this one yet again.
Giannis Antetokounmpo Calls Out Milwaukee Bucks
Giannis Antetokounmpo had to be at his very best in order to lead the Bucks to a huge comeback against the Blazers. He eventually finished with a game-high 33 points on 11-of-21 from the field, to go along with 16 rebounds, six assists, a steal, and three blocks.
It was an undeniably massive effort from the former back-to-back MVP, who could not help but call out his team after conceding a big lead early in the game:
“Sometimes we just make it tough on ourselves,” Antetokounmpo said, via Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “Don’t get me wrong, I think Portland is a very good team. Young team, play hard, big defenders, play the right way. But we just make it tough. We can’t start the game like that. We should not be down 26 and try to come and win the game. That takes a toll on your body.
“But at the end of the day I’m happy that we were able to win. I’m extremely proud of the guys that played, kept their head up.”
We’ve heard this story before. This is far from the first time the Bucks have been on the wrong end of a blowout this season. The only difference is that this time around, they were able to crawl their way back from the dead to secure an unexpected win.
This won’t always be the case for Milwaukee, though. Take for instance last Wednesday’s tough loss against the Boston Celtics. The Bucks were down big in that game as well, only for Giannis and Co. to mount a furious second-half comeback that ultimately fell short.
As Antetokounmpo said, the Bucks can’t keep on letting their opponents get off to hot starts. They got lucky on Sunday, and more often than not, this won’t be the case for them. Not to mention the amount of mental and physical energy they are required to exert in these sensational comeback attempts.
