Milwaukee Bucks veteran Pat Connaughton knows a thing or two about Damian Lillard. These two crossed paths many years ago with the Portland Trail Blazers during Connaughton’s first three seasons in the NBA. During that time, Dame was already a bona fide superstar in the NBA, and his former Blazers and now Bucks teammate got a real good view of what Lillard was like behind the scenes.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Damian Lillard Is a ‘Competitive Dude’
In a recent interview, Connaughton spoke out about Lillard’s competitive nature. According to the Milwaukee shooting guard, Dame is definitely up there when it comes to competing — in any and all aspects:
“He is one of the more competitive guys that I know, no matter what it is,” Connaughton said, via Bally Sports Wisconsin. “We used to mess around, throw a football around. He thinks he can throw farther than me, which he can’t. And then all different types of things. He’s a competitive dude. I think that is who we are. We got Bobby (Portis), you got Giannis, you got everybody on the roster, 1 to 15, 17, 18 are competitive guys. I think he even upgrades us a little bit in that area.”
As Connaughton said, this is exactly the type of attitude Lillard needs in order to thrive with the Bucks. Much like the rest of the squad, Connaughton is a pretty competitive guy as well, and the fact that he even took a swipe at Dame’s ability to throw a football is a clear testament to this fact.
The NBA is a dog-eat-dog place, and Milwaukee is no different. However, I guess you can say that in the most affectionate manner in that the Bucks make sure to use this competitive fire to make each other better. It appears that Lillard has found the perfect place for himself.
