Damian Lillard’s special night has come and gone. The Milwaukee Bucks superstar came back to Portland for the first time since his blockbuster trade move in the past offseason and boy was he given a warm welcome by the Portland Trail Blazers faithful.
Now that it’s over, Dame is able to look back at what was truly an unforgettable experience. At the same time, however, the eight-time All-Star also can’t help but feel a little bit relieved that it’s over.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Damian Lillard Gets Real on ‘Draining’ Homecoming
It comes as no surprise that Lillard made all sorts of headlines in the build-up to his Portland homecoming. Both the media and the fans ate it all up as they anticipated what type of reception the 33-year-old would get from his beloved city.
No one was left disappointed.
For his part, however, Dame admitted that all the brouhaha did take its toll on him. It’s not that he’s not grateful about all this because he absolutely is. It’s just that it was a bit exhausting:
“More than anything it was just kind of draining, you know what I mean?” Lillard said, via Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “Just everything around it and what it was. I ain’t gonna say I’m happy that it’s over but I’m just like; just dealing with everything that came with it. I’ve been asked a million times ‘what has it been like being back in Portland?’ and ‘how do you feel?’ and all this stuff. But I really enjoyed being back but just the whole spectacle of it is just a little bit draining.”
Lillard isn’t exactly the most emotional dude out there, but you could clearly see how all this meant to him. It seems to have drained his social battery a bit, but there’s no denying that he will relish all this for the rest of his life.
