Brook Lopez had a golden opportunity to be the hero for the Milwaukee Bucks late in Wednesday night’s 119-116 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. However, the Milwaukee Bucks center missed that chance, leaving him with a big target on his back from angry Bucks fans.
Brook Lopez Speaks up About Missed 3-Pointer in Milwaukee Bucks’ Loss to the Blazers
With just under 20 seconds left on the game clock, Lopez passed the ball to Damian Lillard before popping out in the right corner. Lillard, feeling the pressure of the Blazers who sent an extra defender to him, tossed the ball back to Lopez, who then faked a shot before launching one from deep. If he made it, the Bucks would have erased a one-point deficit and be up by two points. Unfortunately for the Bucks, Lopez missed it and Lillard never got the ball back. It was the perfect moment for a Lillard to add to his long list of clutch heroics, but he never got the chance to do it because Lopez took matters into his own hands.
After the game, Lopez opened up about that play.

Obviously, there are multiple looks. We wanted to get Dame coming off initially and we had Giannis rolling. It came back to me and they closed hard. I put it down and out of my peripheral, I thought Malcolm was a bit more up on Dame than he really was, so I just stepped into it and took my shot.
Looking back at the film, Dame was a bit more open than I thought he was, but I’m definitely confident in the shot.
Lopez was shooting the ball well before he took the 3-point attempt. Overall in the game, Lopez had 19 points and shot 7/14 from the field and 4/10 from behind the arc. Lillard was just 9/13 from the floor and a poor 3/13 from deep. Even then, many fans would argue that regardless of the stats, Lillard should have been the one to take such a high-pressured attempt from long range.
The Bucks will have to move on from that botched moment and the loss to the Blazers and just focus on the task ahead, which is a road game against the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday.
